Apple MacBook Hard Drive "refresh" or "clean"?
I got my MacBook 13 "(white) for what will be three years in November 2009. I have not purchased the AppleCare extended, but that adds two years to one year warranty that comes with the MacBook, I will not be covered for replacement, etc, after November. I was wondering if anyone knows if Apple offers a sort of "refresh" program? Perhaps making an appointment with a genius at an Apple Store and taking the laptop to check an "up"? This is my first Apple notebook – I know that a PC How to defragment the hard drive and basically "clean up" things, so I wonder if I can do the same for the MacBook to make sure it continues to run well. So far I have not had major problems with it, I just want to do what I can to make sure I can use it for another year or two before I have to get a replacement. Thank you, all!
The equivalent to a weekend format and reinstall Windows is past two hours to reinstall Mac OS. Do this: 1) Launch Disk Utility (in Utilities folder). And "Repair Permissions" for the boot drive. 2) Restart the Mac. Hold down the Shift key after startup tone. Release it after you see the gray Apple logo. This will start in Safe Mode. In addition, the Mac will rebuild the hard drive directory. Once you log in, restart the Mac. 3) After the signal startup, hold Command, Option, P, R. Keep them until you hear the tone of four times. This will restore the parameter RAM (PRAM). 4) Insert the CD System Restore. Restart your Mac and hold down the C key after the tone. Thus, it will boot from the CD. Run Utility disk in the dropdown menu and "repair disk" to the hard drive. Then, reinstall the operating system – making 100% sure you select the option to retain the user settings – otherwise you lose all your data. 5) After installation and restart OS, run Software Update to get the OS back to day.
