Help on memory for laptop?
I want to upgrade the memory on my laptop (Sony Vaio) 1 GB (2 x 512) to 2 GB (2 x 1GB) How could I do so on the basis of the following memory 1024MB DDR2-533 PC2-3200 (2×512MB, 2GB Max) Thanks!
If you want to see this type of RAM is supported by your computer, go to http://www.crucial.com and run the scanner system. It will show what type of RAM, amount RAM, and meets questiong you might have in giving you all the details about you RAM capacity. You can also buy RAM from there if you're interested. In addition, to speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free: Go to the Start Menu> Run Type in "appwiz.cpl" Uninstall whatever you do not need. Then go to Start> Run and type "msconfig". Go to the Startup tab and uncheck anything you do not want to start. If you wish, you can uncheck all, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on. Now, go to My Computer Drive>> Documents and Settings> [name User]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have "Show hidden files and folders" is checked in Folder Options) All files in this folder are temporary files that your Internet stored that for certain websites. Then go to Computer Hard Drive>> Windows> Prefetch and delete everything in it. This folder is like a cache for programs and must be emptied once a month. Then you should install CCleaner, it will get rid of a lot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a repair system registry, which is easily the best available free on the Internet: Another http://www.ccleaner.com/download option is to try defragmenting your computer. Go to the Start menu and go to All Programs Go to Accessories and System Tools. Choose Defragmenter disk and when it loads click Defragment. Then go into Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware tab> Device Manager) and update all drivers. Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you have not already. Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive Check the Compress Drive button and let it do nothing. Finally, make sure your hard drive has no bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. You will be prompted to restart if the restart. This will erase any bad sectors on your hard drive. However, these are solutions short term. The easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free. Good Luck =]
